Abstract : In this research, we have developed a new selective method for Cr(III) detection using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) as a capping agent. AuNPs was synthesized at a room temperature using ascorbic acid as a reducing agent. Cr(III) was induced the aggregation and changed the AuNPs-PABA color from pink to blue. This color change was characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The characteristic Surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) peak of AuNPs-PABA at 525 nm was red shifted to 642 nm that confirms the coordination bonds between AuNPs-PABA and Cr(III).The method performed good selectivity for the assay of Cr(III) over other metal ions. The AuNPs-PABA act as colorimetric sensor for the selective detection of Cr(III). Application this method to real water sample showed a good achievement to detect Cr(III).
