Abstract | : | A prototype of a multi-function module is built using ATMega 8535 microcontroller as the data processor. The prototype has an LCD display and a three-button keypad to select the mode of operation. The prototype has 8 input channels, capable of converting analog input into its digital equivalent, and 8 output channels. The prototype has three communication modes, serial cable based communication for GPS data, short messaging services (SMS) to communicate with hand phones andradio frequency (RF).The prototype has been tested and is capable of processing GPS data in NMEA format and displaying latitude, longitude, altitude, date, universal time code (UTC), speed and its direction, measuring voltages from 0 to 5 volts. The prototype is capable of receiving its input through serial cable, SMS and RF as well as communicating the processed data through serial cable, SMS and RF. Theprototype is also capable of performing simple control function by comparing its input value with a reference value supplied through serial cable, SMS or RF communication channels. |
