Abstract : This study was aimed to determine the potency of anigen® rapid test kit rabies Ag for the detection of rabies virus in the brain samples obtained from field. Some tests carried out were the potential test include detection limit, time limit of reaction to achieve the result, crossreaction test, sensitivity and specificity test. The detection limit was done by serial dilution of positive control virus and to be tested using the rapid detection test as recommended by manufacture’s protocol. Cross reaction test was done to detect antigens other than rabies virus, e.g.: canine parvovirus, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella sp. Sensitivity and specificity test were applied to brain samples which were confirmed as rabies virus positive by fluorescent antibody technique. To confirm of the result of rapid test was then being done by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Based on these results it can be concluded that, Anigen® rapid test kit rabies Ag is able to detect antigen-containing samples having titer up to 0.5 x log 10 6.5/0.03 mL with the average time to perform final result was less than 2 minutes. Further more Anigen® rapid test kit rabies showed no cross-reaction with canine parvovirus, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella sp. The kit showed sensitivity and specificity were 92.3% and 97.9% respectively
