Abstract : Melonn (Cucumis melo L.) is a valuable crash crop grown throughout the world. it is a cross-pollinated diploid (2x = 2n = 24)species of African origin and a member of genus Cucumis, in the family cucurbitaceae [7]. recently, melon is widely cultivated in java, Indonesia. however, melon cultivated has been facing with plant disease. powdery mildew is one of the diseases causes substantial loses in melons production around the world and it is primarily caused by two fungal species : Podosphaera xantii (syn. Sphaerotheca fuliginea (Schlecht ex Fr)and Golovinomycetes cichoracearum (syn. Erysiphe cichoracearum DC. ex Merat][3]. This fungus attack part of above and below leaves and sometimes on the stem and fruits. this fungus could be detected with form as powder, white color and can blow with wind. this fungus can reduce photosynthesis, plant growth and crop yield by powdery mildew are probably greater than loses by any single typee of plant diseases [2]. the objective of this research were to identify an isolat of powdery mildew infecting melon in Indonesia and to screen resistant to powdery mildew in various melons.
