Abstract : Teaching public health management programs may vary in aspects and dependent on lecturers' creativity. Level of competency expected finally determined by the learning opportunities available to students, lecturers involvement in program management, as well as access to facility-based students internship. This paper reports our three-year-long experience of 4 day in- house workshop based on DTPS-WHO sessions and written outputs for public health undergraduate students of haluoleo university Kendari. The workshop objective is to provide learning opportunity to Achieve higher levels of competencies (of Bloom hierarchy) in teaching management program. We help students to use concepts of management - planning, organizing, controlling, actuating, and evaluating - in designing improvement program proposal. Our experiece show three imporant lessons. First, management workshop such as this provide an opportunity to learn in a setting that is applicable and explore the context of POACE in program development. Secondly, students have the opportunity to focus on one program on their preferred and proposed changes through exercises based on written output. Output in the form of a written document acts as a self-assessment for students. Third, this workshop gives students opportunity to demonstrate their soft skills in making tables, diagrams and Gantt Chart of computer software professionals is growing. We discuss the management of the limited time and the limited field experience students as challenges in making the workshop more effective. Conclusion DTPS WHO Workshop for students has advantages in providing higher learning stage of Bloom hierarchy and in developing students' soft skills in communicating management concepts in the forms of professional tables, diagrams, and Gantt Chart. This workshop-based learning strategy should be of interest of faculty members who teach public health management program.
