Abstract : Background: Despite recent behavioral interventions to reduce the burden of dengue fever (DF) over the past few decades, persistent unfavorable dengue-related behaviors in the Indonesian community suggest that dengue vaccination could be effective. Before implementing this nationally, public perception and acceptance of the vaccine should be assessed as well as health providers’ point of view. Thus, this study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) among community members and health providers in Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out in six districts from three provinces in Indonesia. The respondents included both community members and health providers living in the territory of selected primary health care centers (PHCs). Pretested questionnaires were used to gather information on the socio-demographic characteristics and KAPs regarding dengue vaccine. An independent t-test was performed to compare the mean KAP score between community members and health providers, while logistic regression analysis was used to identify the predictors in each domain. Results: Only 18.5% of health providers possessed a high knowledge of dengue vaccine, while in the community it was only 12.5%. Approximately a third of health providers displayed a high-moderate score for attitudes toward dengue vaccine. Meanwhile, the proportion was 10% lower among the community members. Dengue vaccine practices demonstrated a more favorable score for both health providers and community members, at 59.1% and 41.1% respectively. No individual sociodemographic characteristics were associated with KAP status. Only education correlated with better dengue vaccine practices. We also identified that good knowledge about DF was the only factor that was associated with all domains. Conclusions: Our study highlights an urgent need to deliver educational interventions for health providers and community members in Indonesia to improve their awareness regarding the dengue vaccine. This output contributes to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
