Abstract : Matarombeo basin is located in southeast arm Sulawesi, Indonesia, geologically bounded by Matano Fault, Lawanopo Fault, and Tolo Trust. The aim of this research is to identify petroleum system elements in Matarombeo basin. Research method included geological mapping and analysis of petroleum system elements. Stratigraphically, study area consist of Cretaceous – Oligocene ophiolite series which thrusted above Mesozoic sedimentary rocks from the continental crust origin. Unconformably above those two rock groups deposited molasse group on Miocene. The study area has been affected by three different tectonic stress phases. Petroleum system elements consist : source rocks are derived from Meluhu and Tokala Formation; potential reservoirs are mainly targeting Tampakura Formation and Eemoiko Formation; Migration of hydrocarbon is capped by seal rock of thin layer claystone of Late Mio-Pliocene Langkowala Formation, interbedded marl with calcareous sandstone of Miocene Boepinang Formation and shale of Pleistocene Pandua Formation; Hydrocarbon trapping mechanism is stratigraphic carbonate built-up from Eocene-Oligocene Tampakura Formation and Miocene Eemoiko Formation.
