Abstract : A hybrid of nanomagnetic Fe3O4 and antibacterial nanomaterial such as Ag is one of the promising nanoparticles for magnetoresistance-based biosensor. Therefore, we are developing a biosensor system to quantize the biomolecule concentration via the Fe3O4/Ag nanohybrid detection using a spin-valve thin-film sensing element. In this research, Fe3O4/Ag magnetic nanohybrid was synthesized using the co-precipitation/aqua-solution method. During induced by the low magnetic field (about 10-15 Gauss), the step-like magnetoresistance change of the spin-valve sensing element was observed. Embedding of Ag on the Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticle induces 32% of magnetization saturation reduction which successfully enhances the magnetoresistance ratio by 3%. The spin-valve thin-film sensing element exhibits the linear decreasing of the magnetoresistance ratio as the increased nanoparticle concentration of Fe3O4/Ag is attached on its surface. Furthermore, the stray-field presence from Fe3O4/Ag nanohybrid is also indicated by the switching magnetic field shifting. By linking to the specific receptor agent, the Fe3O4/Ag nanohybrid can be assigned as a biocompatible magnetic label in its merger with spin-valve thin-film for magnetic-based biosensor application.
