Abstract | : | Background: Hundreds number of foodborne disease outbreaks were reporting by Ministry of Helath and National Agency of Drug and Food Control in Indonesia. Most of them were unknown caused. Successful investigation and control depend on many resources and supporting role between public health and food safety areas. Objectives: This study identi? ed ability of each areas in foodborne disease outbreak surveillance. Methods: This study is descriptive. Study was held in Yogyakarta Province on November-December, 2014. Results: District health of? ce is the main key in outbreak investigation. Laboratory and food safety areas support by providing sampling testing. District Surveillance Health Of? cer (DSO) sent food packaging samples to Provincial Food Safety. Human and environmental samples will be sent to BLK DIY or BBTKL. There aren’t coordination between laboratories. Samples quality couldn’t be assesed. There are many obstacles in foodborne disease outbreak investigation, e.g: reporting delay, missing samples, and laboratory results didn’t support epidemiological study. Conclusion: Early detection system of food borne disease outbreak has been held according to the guidelines but there is no socialization in sample handling. DSO identify food borne agent according to symptom and incubation period. Strengthening referral linkages between laboratories to perform laboratory testing of food borne disease agents is needed. |
