| Abstract | : | Background: intra-uterine device (IUD) is contraception equipment which is widely used in Indonesia. The usage of IUD contraception is not a perfect tool. There is still lot of complications that would probably happen such as bleeding, vaginal discharge, inflammation of the pelvis, dysmenorrhea and sexual comfort. Sexual comfort is very important to review the life of a family, therefore it is necessary to do research to find out a review of sexual activities in women yang using IUD. This study try to determine are there aany differences in sexual activity patterns in women who using IUD to women who do not use contraception in Kupang. Method: This is a observational study with cross-sectional design by using questionnaire collect data. The samples were 190 women of fertile age in the city of Kupang. The correlation of IUD usage and sexual activities pattern was analyzed by using chi square, and continued with multivariate analysis using logistic regression. Overall tests was conducted using confidence interval (CI) of 95% and a level of significance of p <0.05. Results: Analysis of correlation between IUD usage with sexual activity patterns have p-value = 0.15, OR(CI95%) = 1.52 (0,85-2,71). There was no different pattern of sexual activities on women using IUD with those who do not using contraception. Besides the variables that were statistically significant are age (OR=1,07;CI95%=1,02-1,12), parity (OR=1,64;CI95%=1,25-2,15), duration of marriage (OR=1,08;CI95%=1,03-1,13) and effects of IUD use (OR=2,28;CI95%=0,94-1,33). Meanwhile variables that were not statistically significant are working status and duration of IUD use. Conclusion: The usage of IUD contraception does not affect sexual activities of woman. However effect of IUD usage has effect toward sexual activity, but such effect would be reduced over time up to 1 year of using. The recommendations given in this research is that it is necessary to analyze IUD usage effects toward sexual activities pattern for acceptor. |
